UI VC Commissions Water Project


University of Ibadan, Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, commissions water project.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS, today, Thursday, 18 April, 2019 officially commissioned two boreholes and one elevated tank donated by Debson Engineering Company Limited to Intra Campus Transport Committee (ICTC), University of Ibadan at a total cost of Two Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty-eight Thousand Naira (N2,938,000) only.
In his brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka sincerely appreciated the effort of the Managing Director, Debson Engineering Company Limited, Engr Adebowale Abass for the initiative to provide the University of Ibadan community with such an essential need – borehole water. He thereafter prayed for the progress of the company. He urged the donor and other would-be donors not to relent in their efforts to assist the University of Ibadan to further improve on its developmental activities. He called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate the kind gesture of the benefactor. Prof Olayinka also appreciated the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof Kayode Adebowale for his role in facilitating the project.
Earlier in his speech, the Donor, Managing Director, Debson Engineering Company Limited, Engineer Adebowale Abass thanked God and the University Management for the privilege granted him to contribute his own quota to the progress and development of the University through the provision of potable water to the teeming populace of the University community. According to him, the motorised borehole sunk at the University Gate has two storage tanks of 6,000 litres capacity. He expressed his profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor who approved the projects, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Director of Works and his team, and the Chairman of ICTC for their tremendous support and cooperation. He also appreciated the Deputy Managing Director of Debson Engineering Company Limited and his wife, Mrs Adebukola Abass for the deep interest she took in the project and all the technical crew for their dedication, good conduct and timely delivery of the project.
The Chairman, Intra Campus Transport Committee (ICTC), Prof Olufemi Adegbesan, in his vote of thanks joyfully appreciated the immense contribution of Engineer Abass to the institution. He hoped for more of such in the University of Ibadan. He did not forget to appreciate the effort of the commercial operators for providing a habitable atmosphere within the campus.
Others in the company of Engr Abass were his wife and Deputy Managing Director of Debson Engineering Company Limited, Mrs Adebukola Abass and daughter, Miss Damisi Timileyin Abass.
Present at the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof Olanike Adeyemo; University Librarian, Dr Helen Komolafe-Opadeji; Member, Governing Council, Prof Ademola Aremu and the Director of Special Duties, Office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Miracle Oyewola. Others were Prof Deji Omole, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Engineer Olufemi Adetolu, Director of Works, Works and Maintenance; Engineer Akintunde Bello, Deputy Director, Works and Maintenance Department; Prof Joseph Babalola, Head, Department of Kinetics and Health Education; Mr. Victor Fadeyibi, Chief Security Officer; Members of ICTC: Dr Julius Apotiade and Mr Olugbenga Olomiloro; Mr Adebowale Adeosun, Director, University Advancement Centre and Mr Olatunji Oladejo, Director, Directorate of Public Communication.
